Great Question...
While there are many reasons, there are three that stand head and shoulders above the rest as why this will work for you.
The first is the very real possibility that in the past you have been given the wrong information about the correct thing to do for running injuries.
Studies show that nearly 8/10 runners are injured every year! This is crazy given we have evolved to run…
Clearly runners aren’t doing the correct things to stay injury free…
The common mistakes I see most runners make:
Being over reliant on stretching.
Nearly every injured runner I’ve helped reports that they must be injured due to not stretching enough, in fact its what I used to believe as well even as a Physio.
Shows what a outdated misconception this is…
Recent studies show static stretching does nothing to prevent injuries, and in fact can make injuries worse by irritating the healing connective tissue.
Blindly stretching for the sake of it is a ineffective use of time.
If getting over an injury, becoming a better runner while staying injury free is the goal there is a much better way of doing it.
Not doing effective strength training.
Want to rehab an injury?… You need to strength train
Want to prevent injury?… You need to strength train
Want to be a more efficient runner?… You need to strength train
Although the approach is different for each it really is that simply. Study after study show the exact same thing, specific strength training is key.
This doesn’t mean you need equipment or access to a gym you just need to know the right exercises/prescription for you.
Repairing damaged tissue, preventing injury or getting stronger to increase flexibility all need a different approach…
That’s where the magic happens.
At this point you might be thinking all this sounds good but why online training?
Having worked as a Physio for 10 years I came to the realisation that the standard physio treatment just isn't effective enough for running injuries.
The classic scenario is you're in pain, you go see your local physio etc, pay your money for some massage or maybe some dry needling.
Granted it feels good at the time but it doesn't address the cause.
Hopefully you get 2-3 exercises drawn out for you (good luck remembering all the small details involved) and told to come back in next week to pay another good chunk of money and maybe add one more exercise in. Repeat this until eventually it gets better (very slowly) or you get sick of paying.
The most this gets you is slowly out of pain, however it doesn’t take you to a point that will not only prevent injuries from coming on in the first place but also improve your running!!
Part of the problem is that clinics need repeat visits to make money, and when they are squeezing you into a 30min or less time slot the chance of getting a full rehab program on day one is zero!
Don't get me wrong, Physio etc still has a place for acute injuries/pain however for overuse injuries seen with running there is a better way.
